Winner of UTF Subsea Award
The winner of the UTF Subsea Award 2016 is OneSubsea® Multiphase Compressor
Bernt Helge Torkildsen and Simon Kalgraff, from OneSubsea, and Jarle Ottar Hella and Caroline Bøe, from Statoil are the winners of the 2016 UTF Subsea award for their efforts in seeing a new technology through qualification and into engineering, procurement, construction and ultimately successful installation.
The project team was chosen by the jury for their significant contributions to OneSubsea’s Multiphase compressor technology and its successful installation at the Gullfaks field, in the northern part of the Norwegian North Sea.
They were nominated for their “stamina and visionary mindset” displayed as part of the work on this project over several years, which was instrumental in enabling this game-changing new technology to be brought to market for use on subsea gas fields.
With their help, two OneSubsea Multiphase compressors were put on stream in 2015, targeting an increased recovery rate from 62 percent to 74 per cent for the Gullfaks field.
The jury recognised the removal of the need for upstream separation facilities and the ability for light vessel intervention as being among the innovative steps contributing towards cost reduction in subsea technology.
The OneSubsea Multiphase compressor technology is also seen as having a global commercial potential for use on subsea gas fields. More information is found on the UTC website (external site).
The Power Of Collaboration
- This joint award honouring both the operating and contracting community bears witness of a good collaborative environment in the project, says Gisle Nondal, R&D Manager at GCE Subsea. - Even closer collaboration between the operators and the suppliers is vital in creating a lean subsea industry going forward, and the clusters represent the ultimate arena for stimulating such collaboration, Nondal finishes.
