Vacant Position - Professor in Ocean Technology
The University of Bergen has announced a vacant position as professor / associated professor in Ocean Technology at the Department of Physics and Technology.

The position is connected to the new Master programme in ocean technology, which will start in August 2017. GCE Subsea has actively supported this, and is very happy with 450 student applications for 22 places. The Bergen region and Western Norway account for 56 per cent of Norwegian research and education within marine subjects and possesses a varied ocean industry.
Scientific Focus Areas
The professor / associate professor position will involve special responsibility for teachings and research within ocean technology with an emphasis on measurement technology and instrumentation, as well as integrated monitoring. Experience with robotics, as well as practical use of marine acoustics and/or optical sensors is an advantage. It is a prerequisite that the appointed person is active in strengthening the university’s commitment to ocean technology. Relevant focus areas include:
- monitoring the marine environments (ocean currents, biomass, ecosystem, seabed topography and seabed features)
- fisheries and aquaculture
- climate (ocean temperatures, mass of ice in the Arctic)
- exploration of new mineral and bio-resources in the deep ocean
- renewable energy such as offshore wind, wave and tidal power
- navy active and passive monitoring techniques
- petroleum production
