Wergeland Base Won Contract

Gulen Industrial Harbour in Sogn og Fjordane county has been awarded the contract for assembly site for the floating Hywind Tampen wind turbines before they are transported to the field in the North Sea. The work will start after investment decision has been made for Hywind Tampen.

First Step into Offshore Wind

Wergeland Base has developed and expanded Gulen Industrial Harbour during the last decade. – We are happy to announce this contract which states that our base and services meet Equinor’s demanding requirements, says CEO Irene Kjelby Wergeland. – We now offer a wide variety of services for the emerging ocean industries. With this contract we take a step into offshore wind. We see a large potential in this industry and are ready to serve future offshore wind fields as they are being developed, Wergeland ends.

Onshore Base with Good Facilities

– Equinor on behalf of the partners, have awarded a contract to Wergeland Base in Gulen Industrial Harbour in Sogn og Fjordane based on assessments of i.a. topographic suitability, safety as well as technical and commercial conditions, says Equinor’s project director Olav-Bernt Haga.

The contractor shall provide onshore and inshore areas for storage, assembly and commissioning of all the components for the floating wind turbines, as well as necessary infrastructure and facilities in the project period. The floating wind turbines will be towed to the field where they will be anchored, connected and put into operation.

A Varitey of Services

The Wergeland Group is strategically based on the West Norwegian coast and has developed during six decades from concrete production into an industrial cluster delivering multidisciplinary services to shipping and oil and gas industries. Today the Wergeland Group consists of six wholly owned companies and seven jointly owned companies. The different companies offers services as stone deliveries to protect pipelines and subsea structures, landowner of a 1020 meter long spool base, production of subsea concrete structures, deliveries of sand bags, storage of subsea structures, recirculation of drilling waste and storing and certification of mooring equipment.
