UNITECH has hired Ørjan Ingebrigtsen as new product manager for cables and umbilical. He will mostly be working from Haugesund and Stord, Norway.

– Hiring Ørjan will be a further strengthening of UNITECH’s team for advanced submarine cables, says Gunnar Birkeland, CEO in UNITECH.

Ørjan Ingebrigtsen is qualified electro- and automation engineer and has extensive experience in the field of electricity. He has background as factory manager and technical manager at Nexans, Karmøy, and has been a project manager in Nexans, Siemens and other companies within the field.

UNITECH is investing heavily in cables these days and has several patent-pending designs. – We have used a lot of time to identify and map typical sources of error, and believe we eliminate a number of these only through our innovative design, says Birkeland. The commitment is primarily aimed at the electrification of the sea, and UNITECH wishes to establish a Norwegian value chain for cable production.

– One of our goals is to use aluminum produced on Norwegian hydropower as conductors in our cables. We are currently in a dialogue with Hydro Karmøy, who says they are willing to produce the alloy we want to use in our cables, if the volume is big enough, says Birkeland.
UNITECH considers the electrification of the ocean as a big market opportunity for the region and wants to contribute to green growth in the time to come.

Ørjan looks forward to work with the rest of UNITECH’s team to develop and deliver solutions for submarine cables and umbilical for the future.
