Cluster Insight with SOCON
3D printing in metals, use of robotics and laser technology are methods we are trying to adopt as supplements to our existing methods, says Einar Vindenes from SOCON.
Cluster Insight is a column where we ask six questions to catch a glimpse into the daily business-lives of our cluster partners and members.
This week, we spoke with Einar Vindenes to learn more about him and his work in SOCON - Since 1980, the company has performed workshop services such as maintenance, modification, repair, fabrication and installation of mechanical components for the ship, onshore, offshore and subsea industries.
1. What is your role in SOCON?
Managing Director; Making sure everyone is working hard (and) doing the right thing (wink, wink). As Corona is hampering our daily life, I certainly hope Remi Andre Breivik at TechnipFMC is right in that things are ramping up with strong forecasts! We’re ready!
2. Your main focus at work right now is?
Corona is stealing some focus, but hopefully not all, as the next weeks and months go by. Another focus is our common digitalization/pilot project with TechnipFMC through GCE Ocean Technology. This in addition to qualifying and certifying new methods for high pressure piping fabrication welding. We are actively seeking new relevant technologies to adapt. 3D printing in metals, use of robotics and laser technology are methods we are trying to adopt as supplements to our existing methods.
3. Biggest challenge for the energy industry in the future?
Short term; Corona’s downturn on global activities, oil prices and imposed restrictions which may influence. Offering and applying our know-how and experience accumulated the 40 years we have existed in the oil and gas industry to (“crossover”) the other branches within the ocean industries. Balancing towards these’ quality requirements and maintaining to the subsea market’s requirements.
4. Best part of being member in a cluster
Access to the network of both newcomers, other like-minded actors and seeking new venues and ventures.
5. Your business motto
Act responsibly, secure the employees work and promote new business opportunities – while having fun! Corona is best with lime – in a bottle!
6. Which cluster member should we interview next?
OneSubsea or Equinor should be interviewed so that we all can learn more about their situation.
Thank you for the insight Einar.
