Powerful Collaboration in the UK Set to Save Industry Millions
The UK Hub Digital Data Exchange is ramping up its efforts to increase efficiencies across the UK Continental Shelf (UKCS) oil and gas industry, with GCE Ocean Technology member Sharecat Solutions in a key role.
Established just last year, this collaborative project will standardize the collection of information about equipment and parts across the industry – avoiding duplication and creating business efficiencies worth millions of pounds per year.
Over two years of effort from multiple participating associations, industry partners & the supply chain has resulted in the creation of the transformational UK Hub solution. It will prove a key component in the management of equipment information across all phases of an asset’s lifecycle, from operations, through late life asset management to decommissioning in the UKCS.
The UK Hub uses SHAREcat technology, developed over a 20-year period with the objective to collect, validate, maintain and distribute supplier information. Sharecat Solutions is also leading the hub’s technical development with Vice President Brian Imray acting as the director.
We worked with all levels of the supply chain to make the UK Hub happen. This is truly an initiative for the industry, by the industry, and the fact that collaboration, sharing and reuse are the main components of our technology made it a natural fit for Sharecat. We’re proud to be involved in helping the UK oil and gas industry revolutionise the way it exchanges data. Brian Imray, Sharecat Solutions.
Industry Experts Put their Heads Together
UK Hub Business Development Manager David McColgan welcomed 21 industry experts, including representatives from 12 operators and tier one contractors, at a January event to establish the UK Hub industry steering group. The event was held at the Oil and Gas Technology Centre in Aberdeen. Feedback was very supportive.
– BP, as with many leading operators, is looking at how we can transform our supply chain effectiveness and efficiency through use of technology. The UK Hub complements this through standardized and comprehensive materials data, visibility of equipment, spares and parts used by multiple operators and tier 1 suppliers across the basin. This reduces engineering time, material master duplication and sourcing lead times, says Murdo Macleod, Materials Management and Distribution Manager at BP.
– The benefits of digitally transforming Equipment Information Management for the Oil and Gas industry via the UK Hub are clear. Inaccurate equipment data and documentation leads to costly wastage of time and resources; a cross industry initiative to transform processes by collecting, storing and sharing standardized and quality-assured information for equipment and parts across the industry is essential, adds Digital Solutions Centre Manager Stephen Ashley from the Oil & Gas Technology Centre.
Sharecat Solutions is also working closely with global energy participants in Norway, the USA and Australia to develop and operate additional regional hubs – further harnessing the benefits to be realized using SHAREcat technology.
