Innovation Norway has awarded UNITECH Offshore 15 million NOK in development grants for new environmental technology.

Press release 9 June from UNITECH

Awards are an important support to the UNITECH renewable program and to the commercialization of new technology for profitable floating offshore wind energy. The grant will go to piloting and qualifying critical components in a production facility for a new dynamic cable design aimed at floating offshore wind in particular.

UNITECH has previously received support from the EU for demonstration of the "super cable" in the FLAGSHIP project and support from SIVA's catapult scheme "Sustainable Energy" for the conversion of UNITECH Zefyro's floating wind turbine to 66 kV HUB for other demonstration projects.

"The fact that the funding instruments both nationally and internationally and not to mentiona customers, respond positively with awards and contracts shows that we are on the right track. The award from Innovation Norway is an important step towards cheaper solutions that can make floating wind power competitive. For UNITECH, Innovation Norway contributes to faster commercialization through Miljøteknologiordningen and to reaching the market with export-oriented programs », Gunnar Birkeland, UNITECH Energy Group.

UNITECH and partners have also submitted an application to the "Green Platform" (Grønn Plattform) for the conversion of Zefyros into a hybrid energy HUB with electricity and hydrogen production and storage. With that, Zefyros will become the world's first hybrid energy station offshore for charging and filling electricity and hydrogen for hybrid and autonomous vessels.

UNITECH Zefyros is the world's first floating wind turbine in Metcenter 10 km west of Karmøy and is today part of the National Test Infrastructure provided by the Sustainable Energy Catapult Center. Zefyros is used by UNITECH and many other companies to test and demonstrate new technology.

UNITECH is a technology company established by Bernt Hellesøe and which has supplied connections and advanced cables to Subsea fields worldwide for almost 40 years. The product portfolio is the basis for the development of new solutions for high-voltage transmission and for leak-free connections and distribution systems for hydrogen.

UNITECH is an active member of the clusters Norwegian Offshore Wind Cluster, Maritime CleanTech, GCE Ocean Technology and Norwegian Marine & Energy Complex.
