Accelerating Innovation in Øygarden
Øygarden Municipality has kicked-off a two-year long project to support innovation for sustainable transition of their industry. GCE Ocean Technology will contribute with expertise and network.
Øygarden Municipality has a strong ocean industry and are focusing on innovation for the blue-green transition. The project “Iverksetjing av eit berekraftig og innovativt næringsliv i Øygarden» is establised as a key part to implementing the regions industry development plan to realise the transition.
Engaging Kick-off meeting
About 80 people attended the project kick-off meeting 2 November, which was opened by Mayor Tom Georg Indrevik. He highlighted three large projects of great importance for the region: one being the Northern Lights project, the second, a new road connection between Sotra and Bergen and the third; moving Bergen harbor to Øygarden.
The Northern Lights Joint Venture presented their status and plans forwards. The building of the land facility for the CO2 storage has started and the regional industry secure several contract related to the ongoing work.
Some emphasized the possibility of utilization of CO2 and not just storage. Ronny Haufe in CCB Energy Holding presented their plans for a complete ecosystem with a different combined value chain related to gas, hydrogen, CO2 storage and utilization.

Assistance with Securing Funding
GCE Ocean Technology will contribute to the project with our competence and network. The first activity is a two-hour course on project development commencing 7 December 8:30-10:30.
This course will focus on how to secure public funding for research, development and innovation (RDI) project. So far, we have helped with securing more than 1.75 billion NOK in externally funded RDI projects run and owned by the cluster companies.
Public funding if often very valuable in realizing projects for all types of companies. The course will give an overview of possible funding schemes, how to select the right programmes and useful insights and tips on how to write project applications.
About the Project
The project is headed by Øygarden næringsutvikling, with Øygarden Municipality, Vest Næringsråd, GCE Ocean Technology, NCE Seafood Innovation Cluster, Skogland.com, University in Bergen, HVL, NHH and SINTEF as project partners.
The project will run until mid-2023 and is co-funded by Vestland Fylkeskommune.
