– We are experiencing great success with companies performing lifting operations in an environmentally friendly way and saving costs with our INOShackle, says Merete Iversen Liestøl.

Cluster Insight is a column where we ask six questions to catch a glimpse into the daily business-lives of the partners and members of GCE Ocean Technology.

This week we have spoken with Merete Iversen Liestøl to learn more about her and her work as Sales Manager in Møllerodden: a company known worldwide for their quality onshore and offshore lifting equipment.

1. What is your role in Møllerodden?

Even though we are part of a larger group through our mother company, our core business in Møllerodden consists of a small team of specialists. This demands that each team member need to have the ability to perform a range of tasks within multiple disciplines.

My main role as the sales manager, is to ensure that our products are continuously improved to match the current market requirements, in addition to focusing on various other tasks of strategic, technical and commercial importance. This also involves following all projects from concept/inquiry to customer handover.

While admittedly hectic, this workflow ensures that our core group of employees are highly skilled and able to deliver products of the highest quality to an increasingly demanding industry.

2. Your primary focus at work right now is?

In addition to the daily core business segments, Møllerodden has recently acquired the groundbreaking INOShackle.

We have already experienced several success stories with forward thinking companies utilizing this new technology, and are immensely excited to expand into other market segments, helping our customers save cost and perform lifting operations in an environmentally friendly way.

Apart from the recent acquirement of the INOShackle technology, Møllerodden has a large range of products, with a strong foothold in several industries. Our goal is to further cement our place as the world’s leading supplier of quality proven lifting equipment.

3. Biggest challenges and opportunities for Møllerodden in the future?

Operating in a globally diverse market, one of our biggest challenges is the large amount of competitors in the «traditional» part of our business segments.

Several companies have outsourced engineering and production to low-cost parts of the world, but it is our core philosophy that the way we operate - having engineering, production and logistics closely located together on the western coast of Norway - allows us to deliver products of the highest quality, ensuring longevity ROI for our customers.

Having close cooperation with our skilled teams in engineering and production allows us to ensure a fast turnaround for time sensitive deliveries, while still maintaining the core part of our strength - the quality of both our products and adherence to client requirements.

The challenge with operating in a saturated market, has also inspired us to see towards new, innovative opportunities, with INOShackle being the latest addition to our large selection of products. Being able to offer unique products is a great tool to stand out as a forward-thinking supplier.

4. Best part of being member in a cluster?

The ability to access a large range of contact networks, various events, and insight into the way other members view the current market situation is a great inspiration when it comes to laying the strategic development in a constantly changing and increasingly demanding industry.

5. Your business or life motto

To put it simply: life is too short to constantly overly dwell on the «what-ifs». Anything is possible, as long as you have the right toolset and skilled personnel to make it happen.

This is why Møllerodden is driven on dynamically changing procedures based on field experiences and customer feedback, ensuring constant improvement in all parts of the organization when needed.

6. Which cluster member should we interview next?

I think you should talk to another of the clusters’ latest additions; CGG.

Thank you for the insight Merete.
