New Chair of the Board
Owe Hagesæther, CEO of GCE Ocean Technology has been elected as the new chair of the board in the Norwegian forum for Marine Minerals (NMM).
GCE Ocean Technology believes that Norway can play an important role in deep sea minerals exploration. The Norwegian ocean industry cluster have world leading knowledge and expertise which opens the possibility for a new sustainable offshore industry.
– It is both an honour and a pleasure for me to take on the role as Chair of the Board in the Norwegian forum for Marine Minerals, says Owe Hagesæther CEO of GCE Ocean Technology.
The high importance that marine minerals plays for Norway and our cluster makes it an important topic in the years to come. There are still questions to be answered, but together we can take on the challenges and develop the technology and solutions needed to go forward.
A growing interest
The interest for marine minerals has grown as the legal framework is moving forwards and the demand for minerals has increased. NMM has grown from 17 to 28 members during 2021.
The IEA estimates a quadrupling of minerals required to meet the sustainable development scenario by 2040 and the higher our climate ambition; the higher the demand for minerals will be.
GCE Ocean Technology has been part of NMM since the forum was launched in 2018. We have collaborated closely on projects and seminars. Up next is a joint workshop held together with the Norwegian oil and gas association and GCE NODE, about how to accelerate deep sea minerals exploration to be held in Stavanger 3 June.
