UTC Marine Minerals – Programme Ready
We are very happy to present world leading experts addressing key challenges and possibilities within marine minerals at our UTC Marine Minerals seminar 14 June.
The seminar will give insight into the key role of minerals in the energy transition. You will learn more about the main drivers, environmental dilemmas and how Norway could take a leading role within marine minerals as a new global industry.
The event will be opened by Amund Vik, State Secretary, Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy. The two keynote presentations will be given by:
- Erik Giercsky, Head Ocean Stewardship Coalition, United Nations Global Compact, who will talk about the global dilemmas in ensuring a sustainable energy transition.
- Magnus Ericsson, RMG Consulting and adj. professor mineral economy LTU, who will talk about minerals as a key enabler for the energy transition.
Minerals are key for the energy transition
IEA and Rystad Energy estimates a quadrupling of minerals required to meet the sustainable development scenario by 2040, and orders of magnitude for several “energy transition minerals”. This growth is mainly driven by renewable energy production and batteries.
Lars Eirik Nicolaisen, Senior Partner & Deputy-CEO, Rystad Energy, will talk about the rapid growth rate for batteries and see this in conjunction with the Norwegian value creation possibility report from 2020, forecasting a new billion-dollar industry.
Geir Bjørkeli, CEO at Corvus Energy, will talk about the need for, and importance of scaling the battery production capacity to a new level to be able to achieve a zero-emission maritime industry.
Hildegunn T. Blindheim, Director General at Norwegian Oil and Gas, will talk about the possibility for the Norwegian industry to embark on a new industry adventure. Blindheim will outline how the Norwegian oil and gas industry is addressing the energy transition and working with technology transfer into new business opportunities.
