Exploring Brazil’s energy landscape
Brazil's energy sector is a rich tapestry of opportunities, but also presents its own unique set of challenges.
This week we had the privilege of delving deeper into this dynamic and exciting landscape at our seminar hosted together with DNB and Innovation Norway in Bergen.
Here are just a few of the key takeaways from this insightful event:
- Offshore wind and solar energy are growing in popularity with the first auction for offshore wind farm sites expected for 2023.
- DNB has learned some important lessons through their office in Brazil, including the importance of choosing the right partners, being aware of the local labor laws, and being mindful of the costs of managing business from a distance.
- Equinor has identified Brazil as a key market for its solar energy development initiatives. They have a long-term commitment to Brazil with a growing strategy in renewables and oil and gas.
- The CCUS program delveoped by Petrobas in the pre-salt fields is a pioneer in ultra-deep waters and was the largest in the world in 2020. The company's goal is to reach the accumulated volume of 40 million tonnes of CO2 reinjected by 2025 in CCUS projects.
- Green and blue hydrogen are on of the great bets for the future energy sector and Brazil has great export potential. Electricity matrix of 78% places brazil in a priveliged position. Forecasts indicate that the price of green hydrogen in Brazil in 2030 could be one of the most competitive in the world. Green hydrogen market will move USD 200 billion in Brazil over the next 20 years.
- Meanwhile, Hardanger Hydrogen Hub is working with partners to establish a new green hydrogen supply chain, leveraging existing oil and gas technology. This highlights Norway's commitment to promoting zero-emission solutions globally, including in Brazil.
