– We’ve achieved a lot through collaboration between public and private stakeholders in the VindVest project and are now ready to present our findings, says Karianne Kojen Andersen, Innovation Manager at GCE Ocean Technology.

The VindVest project has mapped out Vestland's strengths in the offshore wind industry and provided concrete recommendations to position the region on the offshore wind map.

The report was presented today at PwC's premises in Bergen:

Vestland has Competitive Advantages

– Vestland has a unique starting point. We have solid experience from oil and gas, which gives us an edge in the design, production, and operation of offshore wind installations, states Kojen Andersen.

Additionally, we have a well-developed port infrastructure, with strategic locations such as Hanøytangen and CCB Ågotnes ready to support offshore projects.

The project has identified four key areas where Vestland can leverage its comparative advantages:

  • Turbine and foundation deliveries: The region boasts strong expertise in the design and production of essential components such as turbines, foundations, and cables, thanks to its oil and gas industry experience.
  • Infrastructure and assembly: Vestland has a well-developed port infrastructure capable of handling large offshore projects, particularly in areas like Hanøytangen and CCB Ågotnes.
  • Installation and commissioning: The region’s strong maritime traditions and high-quality equipment and expertise for offshore installations are crucial for managing challenging weather conditions.
  • Operations and maintenance: Vestland's experience with offshore operations provides a competitive edge in maintaining and operating offshore wind facilities.

– Altogether, Vestland has what it takes to lead in offshore wind – but we need to work together, Kojen Andersen underlines.

Cross-sector collaboration, a focus on transferring expertise from oil and gas, and investment in infrastructure are among the measures that can secure the region's position in the growing offshore wind market.

The report outlines how we can harness Vestland’s strengths, build a sustainable future, and secure jobs for generations to come.
