What Will it take to Reach Net Zero?
Achieving net zero is a monumental task ahead of us. As we find ourselves significantly off track, the goal is clear: by 2050, we must virtually eliminate all greenhouse gas emissions for good.
We are very happy to announce that Klaus Mohn will be joining us at the annual Ocean Innovation Lab on 7-8 May in Bergen.
With his wealth of experience, including his participation in the 2050 Climate Change Committee, Klaus will share his insights into the hurdles we face, the opportunities that lie ahead, and the comprehensive strategies required for a successful energy transition.
Recommends Strategy to Phase out Norwegian Petroleum
The 2050 Climate Change Committee, recommends a series of drastic efforts to reach a net zero society. To succeed it will require a long term, broader and more systematic approach.
One of the recommendations from the 2050 committee is to “prepare a strategy for the final phase of Norwegian petroleum activities and present it to the Storting as soon as possible. The Committee recommends not granting any further licences for development and operation (PDO) or installation and operation (PIO) until such a strategy has been completed”.
Independent of the different scenarios moving forward, we are facing a huge transition in the decades to come. How do we best address and navigate this together?
We are very much looking forward to having Klaus with us at our annual Ocean Innovation Lab 7-8.mai in Bergen. Early-bird price before 11 March.
We hope this will provide insight into how to juggle the energy trilemma in uncertain times. What new business opportunities should we target, and what timeline and collaboration will be required.
About Klaus Mohn
Klaus Mohn has been rector at the University of Stavanger since 2019. Previously he worked as chief economist in Statoil (now Equinor) and professor in petroleum economics.
He is active in the debate on how to foster innovation and value creation in Norway.
Klaus has expressed scepticism to many of the new solutions and industries suggested to replace the value creation from the petroleum sector. Too many businesses are depending on subsidies, rather than being areas where Norway have competitive advantages.
