– We are looking for partners, customers, and new team members to join us on the journey toward a full-scale wave-energy pilot, says Ingvill J. Bækø, CEO of Havkraft.

Cluster Insight offers a glimpse into the daily operations of GCE Ocean Technology’s members and collaborators through a series of six questions.

This week, we had the pleasure of interviewing Ingvill J. Bækø at Havkraft AS. The company aims to become a transformative force in the global energy mix through the power of sustainable wave energy.

1. What is your role at Havkraft?

I have recently taken over the as CEO, and my role is to develop the valuable resources of the company into commercial values.

2. Your primary focus right now?

We are now advancing our technology qualification and preparing for the critical tests planned for 2025.

The core technology works—that’s been proven. Currently, we’re simulating the results from our last lab tests and refining the design to enhance both performance and production scalability.

At the same time, we’re looking ahead to finalize the qualification phase and actively seeking strong partners and customers to join us on this exciting journey towards a full-scale pilot.

Our company is maturing, our systems and technology are on track, and now we’re ready to take the next big step with the right partners by our side.

We are also recruiting, so anyone looking for a hydrodynamic position or full-stack development should check out our vacant positions.

3. Biggest challenges and opportunities in the future?

Building a successful system that efficiently captures energy from the sea is both an exciting challenge and a significant opportunity.

It requires leveraging cost-effective yet highly durable materials, designing solutions that float optimally in any sea condition, ensuring remote control from shore, minimizing maintenance needs, and remaining highly competitive in the energy market.

Achieving this balance is no small task—but it’s also where the greatest potential lies.

From an opportunity perspective, when we succeed, we’ll play a key role in shaping a fossil-free energy mix for the future. We’ll deliver 100% green energy from a source that is far more constant and reliable than both wind and solar—available 24/7 and across the globe.

Additionally, wave power plants require significantly less space compared to other renewable energy solutions, offering a distinct advantage in terms of scalability and environmental impact.

4. Best part of being member in a cluster?

GCE Ocean Technology plays a vital role for a small company like Havkraft. We rely on strong partnerships, access to customers and investors, collaborative arenas, and valuable insights. Being part of this cluster feels a bit like receiving a dinner invitation—we’ve been given a seat at the table.

Our role now is to make the most of the opportunity, contribute meaningfully, and build connections that drive growth and innovation. The stage is set; it’s up to us to make it count.

5. Your business- or life motto

My motto has always been: “Fill the years with life, not life with years.”

It paints a picture of someone who is adventurous and bold, and hopefully also optimistic and inspiring.

I genuinely live by these words, and my well-organized calendar reflects that. In fact, my vacation plans for 2026 are already set, and 2025 was, of course, planned long ago.

For me, life is about making every moment count—both personally and professionally.

6. Which cluster member should we interview next?

I think you should interview Entail. A company with an impressive growth.

About

Take a moment to reflect: 90% of our planet is covered by oceans. Wherever there’s sea, there are waves—and every wave carries energy. Clean, endless, and 100% green energy.

What if we could harness this power efficiently, sustainably, and affordably?

At Havkraft, this isn’t just a question—This is our mission.
